Introduction to the concepts, principles, and algorithms necessary to solve modern, large-scale problems in scientific inference. Emphasis will be given to the tradeoff between assumptions and conclusions for standard types of queries, including associational, causal, and counterfactual. Mathematical maturity and a strong quantitative background (e.g., graph theory, algorithms, logic, statistics) are required. This course discusses a broad range of techniques to reduce the negative impact of software bugs to improve software reliability and security.
