This course provides core knowledge and skills needed by pharmacists to promote patient safety and use the tools of healthcare informatics; understand the landscape, epidemiology and culture of patient safety data privacy and security. Case studies will address disclosure of medication errors and reporting adverse events. Informatics tools such as computer order entry, electronic medical record systems, health information exchanges, and decision support will be explained. The use of informatics tools to promote patient safety will be emphasized. Typically offered Fall.
