Learning Outcomes: 1. Know important genres of children's literature as well as their historical, cultural, and aesthetic contexts. 2. Know important theoretic approaches to the study of children's literature as well as debates about the ethics of writing for children. 3. Empathize through considering perspectives on childhood from authors whose life experiences are different from students' own. 4. Write clearly and produce elements of academic writing, including a thesis, as well as appropriately selected, evaluated, and presented textual evidence.
