Understand the environmental and human history of the American west. 2. Be aware of the complicated and overlapping experiences of the inhabitants of the west including, but not limited to, the diverse indigenous population and the myriad groups of settlers from Asia, South and Central America, Europe, and the US. 3. Gain a new appreciation of how diverse populations interacted with multiple environments of the American west and the ongoing impact of that legacy on our modern times. 4.
