HORT 52500 - The Plant Microbiome
Credit Hours: 3.00. Students will learn about the latest methods to collect and analyze root and shoot exudates, quantify the composition and activity of microbes associating with plants, and determine how these associations influence plant health and productivity. Critical reviews of the primary literature and development of a research proposal will help students acquire the skills needed to conduct research on this rapidly emerging topic. Typically offered Spring.

Learning Outcomes: 1. Describe basic processes regulating plant-microbial interactions in the rhizosphere and phyllosphere, and the implications of these interactions on plant and environmental health. 2. Critically evaluate and discuss primary literature in the field. 3. Compare and contrast methods used to study processes mediating plant-microbial relationships. 4. Identify questions that remain unanswered in the field and develop a research proposal to address one of these questions.
