EAPS 31000 - Introductory Statistics For Geosciences
Credit Hours: 3.00. Introductory course in statistics and quantitative reasoning for students in geosciences. Topics covered include probability distributions of discrete and continuous random variables, simulation, confidence intervals and hypothesis tests for one and two samples, inference for regression and correlation. Learning Outcomes: 1. Understand basic concepts of probability and statistics, and gain a solid basis for practical application of statistical methods in geosciences. 2. Obtain hands-on experience in resampling methods to handle data without having to rely on strong assumptions common in classical statistics but rarely met in geosciences. 3. Use statistical software to analyze data and interpret results.
