Topics covered include probability distributions of discrete and continuous random variables, simulation, confidence intervals and hypothesis tests for one and two samples, inference for regression and correlation. Understand basic concepts of probability and statistics, and gain a solid basis for practical application of statistical methods in geosciences. 2. Obtain hands-on experience in resampling methods to handle data without having to rely on strong assumptions common in classical statistics but rarely met in geosciences. 3. Use statistical software to analyze data and interpret results.
