The relations of the arts to society; the production, diffusion, institutionalization, democratization of the arts, with attention to the consequences of diverse media structures organization, marketing, and support structures. Emphasis will be placed on related emerging social roles, the connection between art and politics, elite versus mass arts, and the arts and cultural values. Typically offered Fall Spring Summer.
