Credit Hours: 3.00. This course is designed to introduce students to the essential principles of mammalian reproduction and apply this knowledge in a hands-on laboratory setting. Upon completion of this course, students are expected to understand the processes of sexual determination, sexual differentiation, steroid hormone signaling, spermatogenesis, oogenesis, fertilization, gestation, parturition and lactation. Identify and describe functions of the macroscopic and microscopic parts of the reproductive and mammary systems of the male and female of several livestock species. 2. Discuss relationships among cells, tissues, glands, hormones and organs involved in reproduction and lactation and explain the main biological mechanisms involved in each of these processes. 3. Explain how reproduction and lactation are influenced by environmental and genetic factors. 4. Utilize principles, facts and concepts gained from course material to provide solutions to problems related to reproduction and lactation of livestock.
