Course focuses on theoretical and practical knowledge for teachers about how second languages are learned, and on the educational and philosophical basis for second language teaching and learning. The course links English language development to teaching and learning strategies and is designed for undergraduate and graduate students in education and practicing teachers. Develop an understanding of the linguistic challenges of academic language in the content areas of science, language arts, mathematics, and the social studies for ELLs. 2. Gain experience in determining academic tasks that require advanced levels of reading and writing. 3. Learn about the development of academic literacy as ELLs move from elementary into secondary and postsecondary education.
