AAE 54500 - Dynamic Behavior of Materials
Associated Term: Fall 2024
Learning Outcomes: 1. Express local equations of motion. 2. Derive one dimensional wave equations in solid materials. 3. Calculate elastic wave speeds in solids with and without constraints. 4. Understand and calculate local stresses as an elastic wave passes through an interface. 5. Understand and predict local stress concentrations resulted in from wave interactions. 6. Utilize elastic waves as loading methods and as diagnostic methods. 7. Design experiments to measure dynamic behavior of materials. 8. Determine dynamic yield strength of ductile materials in Taylor impact tests. 9. Determine plastic wave speeds in ductile material under intensive loading. 10. Understand shock wave propagation in solids. 11. Understand physics and calculate shock properties of materials. 12. Understand physical origins of plastic waves and shock waves. 13. Understand rate-dependent material models. 14. Conduct a thorough search of literature on a subject of interest. 15. Understand the critical issues of the subject of interest. 16. Identify research gaps in the subject of interest. 17. Present effectively a summary of the literature survey.
