Learning Outcomes: 1. Nomenclature rules, structure and formulae of ionic and covalent compounds. 2. Ionic, covalent and metallic bonds. 3. Intermolecular forces and their effect on physical properties. 4. Writing, balancing and using chemical equations in stoichiometric calculations. 5. Reaction kinetics and equilibrium. 6. Solutions: concentration units, solubility, and colligative properties. 7. Properties of acids, bases and buffers: pH and titration. 8. Nomenclature rules, structure, formulae and reactions of selected organic functional groups. 9. Structure, properties and biological roles of selected classes of biochemicals (lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, and nucleic acids). 10.
