Learning Outcomes: 1. Describe the diversity of feminist thought within the U.S. and globally. 2. Summarize the following concepts: 1) sex and gender; 2) social construction and essentialism; 3) oppression; 4) privilege; 6) resistance and social activism. 3. Analyze how gender operates as system of social stratification and differentiation in major arenas of social life such as home and family, work, politics, education, and sexuality across various cultural contexts. 4. Define some of the multi and trans-cultural interactions among gender, race, class, sexuality, and national belonging and some of the ways in which "woman/women" and "man/men" is a constructed category that is historically and culturally shaped. 5. Demonstrate an understanding of activist awareness and commitment to women's and LGBTQ+ issues from a multi/trans-cultural and global perspective. 6. Make explicit connections between matters discussed in this class and the events and interactions of your daily life.
