CNIT 45800 - Biomedical Informatics

Learning Outcomes: 1. Understand how genomic and proteomic data are structured, stored and queried. 2. Understand the methods used to represent nucleotides and mino acids in the digital realm, and how to access genomic and proteomic databases. 3. Understand and implement algorithms used to efficiently carry out sequence alignments. 4. Understand the methods and rationale for constructing cladograms. 5. Understand the genetic basis of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), existing SNP databases, and the role of SNPs in systems supporting personalized medicine and forensics. 6. Understand the rationale and utilization of DNA design applications supporting molecular biology methods. 7. Understand the rationale and utilization of 3 dimensional protein rendering applications. 8. Understand how information and data support clinical therapeutics.
