ENGL 43900 - Topics In Disability Studies
Associated Term: Fall 2017
Learning Outcomes: 1. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of different models for understanding disability. 2. Understand ways normalcy is socially constructed. 3. Identify cultural practices that exclude disabled people. 4. Compare and contrast disability with other identity categories such as race, gender, and sexuality. 5. Discuss ways in which culture defines disability as impairing one's subjectivity and even humanity. 6. Analyze literary representations of disabled characters. 7. Examine the role of disability in literary works more broadly.
